THE SACRED JOURNEY: RE-MAKING OUR WORLD ANEW celebrates the first anniversary of St. Mary's College of Maryland's Commemorative to Enslaved Peoples of Southern Maryland. The two-part program begins with a Panel of Remembrance and Reverence that focuses on the experiences of the enslaved and their descendants. Then, led by President Tuajuanda C. Jordan, The Procession of Dignity will begin with a blessing at a presumed burial site of enslaved people and will traverse our campus to the Commemorative site. We will pause to reflect at the Commemorative site before processing to the water’s edge that was so crucial in the lives of the enslaved. At the water’s edge, we will honor the lives of those enslaved with celebration, libation, remembrance, and reflection.
